“When the contrived relationship of two scientists collides with an irresistible force of attraction, it shatters one woman’s meticulously crafted notions about love, plunging her into chaos.

Olive Smith, a third-year Ph.D. candidate, is a firm non-believer in enduring romantic bonds. However, her best friend holds the opposite view, leading Olive into an unexpected predicament. Convincing her friend, Anh, that she is in a committed relationship and on her way to a fairy-tale ending requires more than mere tricks; scientists demand evidence. Thus, driven by panic, Olive impulsively kisses the first man she encounters.

To her astonishment, the man turns out to be Adam Carlsen, a young and accomplished professor notorious for his arrogance. Surprisingly, Stanford’s most domineering figure in the lab agrees to keep her charade under wraps and act as her fake boyfriend. When a major science conference goes awry, jeopardizing Olive’s career, Adam shocks her once again with unwavering support and a chiseled physique.

As their little ruse begins to feel dangerously real, Olive realizes that matters of the heart are far more intricate than any love theory she has ever studied. Now, she must examine her own emotions under the microscope to decipher the complexities of love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ali Hazelwood is the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis, as well as the writer of peer-reviewed articles about brain science, in which no one makes out and the ever after is not always happy. Originally from Italy, she lived in Germany and Japan before moving to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in neuroscience. She recently became a professor, which absolutely terrifies her. When Ali is not at work, she can be found running, eating cake pops, or watching sci-fi movies with her two feline overlords (and her slightly-less-feline husband).
